JEMIMA SARA X I AM ARLA PRINT

“ONE STORY AT A TIME”

A WORD FROM THE ARTIST

“At the end of September I was doing a funky lampshade workshop at Wolf and Badger when Rosie, the PR Manager, mentioned that they where going to be working with “I AM ARLA” a platform helping women rebuild and rediscover their lives after abuse and trauma. One thing led to another and I ended up speaking to one of the founders. We connected and after reading the story behind Arla I asked if I could design a limited edition print for their launch this October.

The “One Story At A Time” print is inspired by all of the women around me. Every self-identifying woman I know has been affected by harassment, abuse or trauma. Every woman has a story and every story has a right to be voiced and listened too.

From watching abuse from a young age, I know it can take many forms. Emotional, coercive control, violence, sexual and more. Sometimes without even knowing it, women are being abused, harassed or violated.

When you’re going through any kind of trauma or abuse you feel alone. You feel voiceless. You feel silenced and in my case, I felt completely invisible which left me with frustration and a deep sense of dissociation.

“I AM ARLA” is a space for women to be heard, seen, and apart of a community. I know that I would have needed Arla and that many others will too. Every story is valid, every story is important and no story should be silenced.

Having a community and a safe space is key. I was scared to talk about what happened, still am and probably will be for a while. However knowing there are people, women, around me who have also gone though similar experiences I feel a little less alone. There is love around us.

Thank you so much to the lovely “I AM ARLA” team for letting me create something special and close to my heart for your launch. '“I AM ARLA” is going to change the lives of many, many women. “
